I bought one last month and installed it myself carefully over 3 days leaving off the window control, door locks and starter cut-out for now as hooking up everyting else was a major test of my diagnostics since I had no wiring diagram of my car(94 merc) with the obd-1 system of on-board computers.

the alarm itself is pretty sophisticated as to its capabilities and configuration to the vehicle, it will even remote start a diesel waiting for the "wait to start" light to go out!, the range of the transmiter/receiver is a little shaky depending on local rf interference though or whats between you and the car. another weak spot is the wire gauge of the start/accessory relay system it was smaller then my existing wiring so I had to re-wire it to handle the load to keep it from becoming a possible meltdown and disabling the car completly(some circuits are spliced into existing wires not just paralelling them) finally let THEM install it as the factory will give you NO help unless your an authorised dealer

it's a good little unit, only weak point i found was the range.... so i upgraded myself to the Clifford 3.5 which is very similar but actually in many ways superior to the 554R...longer range and security paging done in real time
