Hi,

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege ES GT with keyless entry and one of the buttons on the key fod is a panic button.  I trunk relase on the car is mechanical at this time but i have bough a door lock actuator which i plan to use to open the trunk.  I would like to use the signal that is used for the panic button to instead open the trunk. Would anyone have a wiring diagram for the panic button circuit or even know roughly what would be required to do this?? I know that i'm going to have to get a new relay but i'm not sure how complex this will be.  I have done very simple radio installs and the such but i usually don't mess with relays and diodes. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Elton Rebello

My first suggestion would be to get a trunk release solenoid and not use the door lock actuator. The reason being the door lock actuator stays in one position until the reverse signal is sent to the actuator to return it to the normal position. The solenoid only pulls one way and then returns back to it's original position after current is drawn out of the solenoid. If you were to use the actuator you would need 2 relays + a latching relay to do what you want witht he actuator. As far as wiring information for the OEM keyless entry......... I suggest getting an aftermarket unit with trunk release option and install into the OEM system, WAY easier !
