Hi all

A few months ago, I had a shop install a 790XV into my 2001 Acura CL. It has been pretty much working fine until the last couple of weeks.

First thing I noticed was when arming and disarming... Normally Arm is one chirp and Disarm is Two Chirps right? Will, now when I arm there is a very quiet sound. It is not a chirp, rather the sound of like a dying animal. When I unarm, instead of two chirps, it is the sound of the dying animal then a normal chirp.

This has been happening on and off for some time now but never really got around to doing anything about it.

Now it is not only making strange sounds, but other weird things are happening.

- After Remote starting the car, the alarm starts going off at about 20% normal volume. You can only hear it if you are within 20 ft of the car.

- After parking and shutting off the car, same thing, alarm rings at 20% volume for no reason.

- Sometimes after a successful remote start, the car will shut itself off after 5 mins for no reason.

And so on.

Do you think i have a bad alarm? Bad wiring somewhere?

I have no receipt (lost it) and the place I got it installed at is shut down now. What are my options? I am pretty comfortable with getting in there and messing around with the system since I am in the IT industry and deal with wiring all day, but I was hoping for some guidance as to what I should be looking for.

Are these things known to have these types of problems?

Please Help

Thanks!

-the "dying animal" sounds like grounding problem. check the main ground and the siren ground. a non-contact ground can cause the siren to sound like "dying animal".
-the alarm goin off when remtoe start: is it ur factory alarm or the viper?
-if the factory, you need to disarm the alarm while remote start.
-for the timing: whats the default timing? i think 5or6 min is one of the setting.

Sounds like a ground problem.  Check your ground connections.

thanks for the quick replies.

I'll check the grounds out, this may explain why it is an intermittent problem. Sometimes the alarm works great and other times it sounds like crap and starts doing wacky things.

Also, the installer just disabled my factory alarm when he installed the Viper cause he didn't know how to get both to work together! (Great installer huh?)

Thanks and I'll let you know how I made out

Will

actually, that car seems very difficult to work w/. the factory alarm is locate under the passenger's seat.
i hope he disable the alarm temporarily, all there was to it was another wire along that harness.

Awesome! It was just a ground like you said!

Thanks for the help, the alarm works perfectly once again. Funny how a bad ground could cause so many weird problems lol

I drive a 2001 3.2 Acura CL  (similar to 2001 3.2 TL)

OK, well now that my other problem is fixed, I figure I will move on to other things and modify my alarm how I really want it.

My car came with a factory trunk release that I was able to operate via the factory transmitter. It is an electric trunk release, not a lever.

Now I want to be able to open my trunk via my Viper remote but the installer said it couldnt be done. After searching through here for the last couple of days I see that it can be done, but I am not 100% sure on what I need to do. So far I understand that I will probably need a relay even though my car comes with the factory trunk pop already? Is this true?

Also, As stated in my previous thread my installer (who is shut down) disabled my factory alarm somehow disabled it by either cutting a wire(s) or some other way. I really want to re-enable my factory alarm so that I have 2 layers of protection, and also so that featuers like trunk release and such are available to me again.

Thanks for your help!

i take back what i said about the factory unit being over the passenger side.....lol....looked at the wrong diagram.
anyways...heres how to hoook up the trunk popper. go get a prewired SPDT relay. www.partsexpress.com , look for prewired socket and relay.
| TRUNK/HATCH PIN|blue/green          |- |drivers fuse box            |
|TRNK/HTCH RELEASE|white               |+ |passenger MUX module *3     |
*3 The passengers MUX module is located behind the glove box.
-first hook up the trunk pin if you havent already. primary harness, blue wire
-WHITE/ red from primary harness
85-WHITE/ red
86 and 30- 12volt constant fuse
87-white
thats it!!!!
good luck.
possibly, the reason why the installer said its not possible because its kinda annoying to go back and remove the underdsh on both side, driver and pass.
