I just finished installing the Compustar 2WSS-AS with DEI 556U in my 2005 STi. Incredible range on the two way and one way remotes. Everything seems to be working well but I do have a few questions which I can't find any answers from the manual.
- When enabling Autostart, the door unlocks briefly prior to starting and then locks after. Is this normal.
- Is it normal for the parking lights to remain on when the engine is running in Autostart mode?
- In reservation mode, engine running after removing key, the engine stops when I open & close the door. The door then locks followed by a reservation mode confirmation. Is this a normal? Seems like an opportunity to accidentaly lock the keys inside the car.
- I hear a relay clicking whenever I step on the brake when the car is running. I haven't checked if it does the same when not running with ignition off. Is this normal?
All of the above with the factory default setting.
BTW, it's easier to use the one way remote when doing remote programing. For some reason the two way remote sometimes transmit the signal incosistently.
I'm very happy with the system overall. I will be adding the DEI 530T, 529T and trunk release when I get a chance.
If anyone is interested I have a spreadsheet with the connection info for 2005 STi email me (cyberduc748@softhome.net). I used the HKS FT3 Turbo Timer and therfor did not have to cut any of the factory wires.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

No....you need to change a setting. I'm not familiar with Compustar, so I couldn't tell you which one.

I guess you haven't visited the security forums at www.nasioc.com
Your car has a wire that shows ground whenever the car is in gear, and positive when in neutral. It can be found at the ECU in the passenger side footwell. I believe the color is GREEN/ black. If you hook it up to the hood input of the remote start, you can set the remote start to automatic transmission mode and it will never start in gear.
Otherwise, reservation mode is working correctly.

That doesn't sound normal.

JWorm,
Thanks for the feedback.
FYI, I'm using the Neutral Position Signal (ground in Neutral, open in gear) instead of the Parking Brake signal.
I just realized that the relay clicking when I step on the brake is related to the neutral position signal.
If I put the gear in neutral and I step/release the brake, the relay will click. If I step/release the brake again without moving out of neutral, nothing happens (no relay switching). But if I move the shifter in gear and then back to neutral, the relay triggers again when I step/release the brake.
Obviously, if I use the parking brake switch instead, I would not have the relay clicking every time I ste/release the brake.
I wonder if this is related to the Compustar Reservation mode logic?
I guess the fix is what you said. Connect the Neutral Signal to the hood input and switch to Automatic Transmission mode. I will also have to connect the parking brake input normally.

Just checked the manual again.
If I hook up the neutral position ground to the hood input and use Automatic Transmission remote start mode, does this disable the hood input as an alarm input trigger? I don't see anything on the manual mentioning this. Othewise, the input will be grounded all the time.

Yes this is normal and you can program this feature on of off.Page 9 of the install guide.

Yes this is normal for about 98 % of all remote starter units. Other's will flash the parking lights from other companies.

This can be programmed out the same way on Page 9 of the installation manual.

No this is not normal if the relay sound is coming from the Compustar. The only time the relay is suppose to be heard when pressing the brake is when you remote start the car and then you press the brake. This releases the relay that gives power to the parking lights.

If you are going to do this, make sure that you diode isolate both wires ( hood and nuetral safety wire ) from each other.
