Before finding your site I spliced the fuel pump wire on my 2001 tacoma and added a on/off switch.  But it was not practical because it meant I had to turn the swtich on when starting and off when I left the car.  I tried the passive starter kill method posted it on your site and it worked wonderfully becaused i did not have to remember to switch it off when leaving.   The only problem is now it does not crank on the first try unless the car was just started.  I am thinking it is the 14 or 16 gauge wire that i hooked up to the relay because the fuel wire on the truck is about 10 gaude.  Do you think it is wire gauge or the DEI relay that I am using.  Any recommendation before I replace everything.

Thanks in Advance

Ben

Hi Ben, you didn't mention if you are using your radio or a momentary switch or anything else... This would help troubleshoot your problem. You can try using the same gauge wire as the stock wire, but you most likely need to have the coil of the relay energize with both the accessory and ignition positions (diode isolated) so the fuel pump will have power the instant 12V+ is applied to the ignition lead via the key.  Let me know how you have the passive starter kill relay set up and I may be able to offer more help.

I am using the momentary switch, but instead of getting the power from the ignition, I tapped into the cigarette lighter because it turns the power on when the ignition is on.  Can I connect it to the 30(12v) to the 87(power to the fuel pump that I sliced)?  That sounds like the solution but I am not sure and dont want to damage anthing.  I dont know about the diode isolater thing you mention.  Could you show me how to do if that is the best way?  What color is the igntion wire for a 2001 toyota tacoma double cab?

Thanks,

Ben
