Crimestopper RS help

I installed at Crimestopper RS-999TW1 today.  I am unable to get it to do much.  Here is what I can get it to do and what I can't.

1.  When I first connect the battery to the remote start unit, it will command the doors to unlock.

2.  Both remotes, the 2 way and 1 way have no reponse when a button is pressed.

3.  I thought maybe I needed to program the remotes so I tried to follow the procedure, but I am unable to get the unit into the remote program mode

4.  I can get the unit into the program options mode using this procedure which seems different then what the book says.

  a.  Ground the gray (hood switch) wire

  b.  turn the key to on

  c.  Press and hold the valet button until parking lights turn on

  d.  Quickly press the valet button 4 times.  (The manual says to perform steps a, b and then press the button 5 times.  This never works.  I press and hold the first press until the lights come on.

It seems that the lights and locks are wired properly.  I checked that the unit is receiving 12V for the two main power connections.  It is also receiving the accessory and ignition power corresponding to the key position.

I am out of ideas and any suggestions would be great.

I haven't installed a crime stopper in quite awhile but I will try to help from the older ones. It may not apply to what you have now though.

1. If it only does that when you first connect power than it shouldn't be a problem. Do the locks work fine otherwise? I guess with problem 2 you may not know.

2 and 3.  I suspect the same you need to program the remote. Make sure you have a functioning battery in it. Keep reading the manual and make sure you are doing as it says. I know in the old 96 MX Vector systems you had to have the system disarmed and placed into test mode to program it. Make sure you read and see if there is something in your manual about that. The way you did it in the old ones was to ground a RED / white test wire. Check for a RED / white wire and see if the book says what its for. If your book says test mode wire then ground it and turn the ignition on and the red LED will light solid several seconds and start diagnostic recall. The system would then be in test mode. I say again this is how it USED to be.

4. I'm not sure if  your indicating a problem here or not. If so what is it?

This is a remote start only system.  In order to get into the test modes, they say the gray wire which is the hood switch must be grounded.  I have been jumpering that to ground.

The batteries in the remotes seem good as the LED's blink when I press a button.  It just seems like I can't get it to do anything that has anything to do with the remotes.

The only way I can get it into system options program mode is to start by placing it into Valet mode with the gray wire grounded.  If I try and follow the same procedure for programming the remote, it doesn't work.  5 button presses is for system program and 4 is supposed to be for remote program.  5 presses works, but I don't get any repsonse from 4.

Last night, it also drained my battery and my truck wouldn't start.  I am beginning to wonder if something is wrong with the module.

U need to take it OUT of Valet and then program

Hey Teken No actually I don't. I am not a dealer I just installed several crimestopper products a few years back and still have a manual. They cater pretty well to the do it yourselfer so that was a  big factor in buying their product. I have had an alarm and remote start in my truck for about 7 or 8 years and it still performs great.

Hopefully he will get this problem figured out. I think I would place a call to tech support.  

It turns out that the harness between the FM demod box and the RS unit is color coded.  I had to swap the harness connection and the remotes started functioning.  Hopefully the battery won't continue to go dead.

The only thing that I can think of that would cause the battery to go dead is the anti-grind relay.  I have the high side of the relay coil tied right to a constant 12V source.  The low side is switched by the RS unit.  I thought that I read the unit might activate the relay when the lock button is pressed.  That means that the relay would be active the entire time the vehicle is sitting.  Does that sound right?  I guess I could double check.
