I'm going to be installing an alarm/remote starter on this car.  I'm wondering about airbags and the proper precautions.

Now, I've read somewhere that the airbag wires may be yellow and large gauge (14-16).  Are there any special precautions I should know about before I go probing wires and such?  Is there anyone here that can tell me what color the airbag wires are in this car and what might identify them?

Also, one more question...Where would I obtain 12 volts constant from?  It would be power for the alarm.  Do I just tap into one of those wires listed on the diagram?

All this info is much appreciated!  Thanks!!!!

Air bag wires are thinner and wrapped in a yellow jacket that makes it look thicker. They stick out like a sore thumb. For power you can get it in the ignition or run it directly from the battery with a fused power wire. I usually go with a 10 ga power wire off the battery for remote starts whenever possible.

I always grab my power from the ignition harness (except one caddy I did I had to go to the battery).

Thanks!  I'll take a close look underneath the dash so I can find all the wires and such.  Are there any other risks involved when dealing with airbags that I should be aware of, particularly in this car??

So the constant wire is usually larger gauge in the ignition harness?  I'd like to try and use the power from the inside so I don't have wire running from the battery.

I'll post some pics of the wires if I have any other questions.

Again, thanks for helpin me with this info!

Sorry to bring back this already dead topic.  I snapped a few pics of the ignition harness in my car.  That yellow tube on the side that contains a few small wires, is that possibly linked to the airbags?  Plus, I'm guessing that the bundle coming out of the white box is the ignition harness.  Thanks!

yes that is the ign harness(the grey cover pops right off it may look like it is bolted on but its not) and that looks like the airbag wire (yellow tubing on left of pick)
good luck!

Makesure you are using a DMMeter to check suspected wiring.

Thanks!  Sorry for the huge pic.

Snguyen, thanks for the additional wiring diagram.  It has more info on it then my other diagrams.

Yea, that is the only large yellow tube underneath that I can see.  It holds 3 or 4 wires I think and the wires run up into the steering column and onto seperate connectors and harnesses.  It's hard to tell since it's so cluttered and all the wiring is covered by those blocks.

I plan to probe all of wires with my DMM, which is a Fluke by the way, if that is any good.

Also, the parking light wire is coming right out of the harness on the bottom of the fuse box, correct?

THANKS!
