Hi guys, I have an 01 dodge ram. I bought an avistart 3200 today and while making an appt. the installer insisted i have an immobilizer on my truck. I had my wife's suv at the time so he didnt look at it.

My key is a the typical dodge key thats way to thin and cheap looking to have the chip thing it it, as apposed to my wife's fat ford escape key with the chip.

anyone know if its standard on an 01 ram? I just wanna make sure I'm not gonna be charged for something I dont need. I doubt that would happen , but you never know.

thanks, tim

Black-headed key= no immoblizer

Gray key= immoblizer.  Installer may use something like DEI's 555U (you'll lose one of your keys).  There's a new module from DEI, the 555C.....it's a little more expensive, but you can keep all your keys.  However, you will need to provide the installer with two working keys, so he can program the 555C.

If the installer sees a black key, and still tries to charge you extra, he's either incompetent or dishonest.
