Hello,

I have a avital avistart 4100.  I have reason to believe it has been locked by a bitwriter (absolutely can't program using learn functions via valet button).  I am considering purchasing a bitwriter so that I can program the starter to my preferences.  Will a DEI 998T Bitwriter (version 1.6) do the trick?  Will I need anything else?  I have never used one before so pardon the newbie questions.  Also, is $85 plus shipping a reasonable price?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Well, the version might be too old so order a new chip with the newest version. As far as the price, don't know I got mine for 35 when I went through tech training with a local rep.

So the 998T will program the Avital Avistart 4100?

Nope, doesn't look like it. 4200 and above only it looks like.

So that means my assumption that the 4100 was originally locked by a bitwriter is false (because starter is not bitwriter capable), correct?

Thanks for all the info!  You saved me some money.  Now I need to figure out why I can't change any of the settings via the learn process (valet button)!

If it's Bitwriter capable, there will be a black 3pin port on the main module somewhere. 3200 are capable, so I would imagine that the 4100, 4200 areas well.

nope the 4100 replaced the 3100 which was not.... only the 562 & up platforms ( 3200, 4200,  etc) are Bitwriter compatible

I've had a few 561 ( 4100, etc ) series units freeze up and lock out programming after programming one feature...... I've just replaced them....
