Hey I'm new here and am looking for some help,

I finally figured out how to mount the power window apparatus in the doors of my '87 Volvo 240DL, and its time to do the wiring. As with I think any power window motor, the motor moves up and down simply by swapping wires:

12v to the red wire and ground the black wire: window goes up

12v to the black wire and ground the red wire: window goes down

I would like to use generic power window switches from either Napa Auto Parts or from Pep Boys, but I cannot find any wiring diagrams for the switches anywhere. The switches generally have 5 pins on the back.

The only way I can think to accomplish a switch mechanism on my own is by using 2 automotive relays per door:

When a rocker switch is flipped up, it engages a remote wire which turns on one of the relays, sending power to red and ground to block, moving the window up.

When the rocker switch is flipped down, it engages a remote wire for the other relay, which sends power to black and ground to red, moving the window down.

I'd rather do just the generic power window switches if possible; could anyone help me out on the pin assignments?

Check the RELAY section of this site(Upper Left of page)
You want to do 5 wire Reversal
You will need 2 SPDT Relays one for UP & one for DOWN

Errr so my idea for the relays was correct? The relays section didnt really seem to provide me with a lot I've already read it several times.

And this still doesnt answer my question of what the pin assignments are for the power window switches.

I would venture to say,  there are at least 8 to 12 different type Power Window Switches with as many configurations, including Lighted type.

You would need to either check Switch with Meter to understand the PIN configuration or maybe submit it here ( help if U had picture ) &  maybe someone could help

This is for Power Windows without the Key being turned on

2 SPDT RELAYS:

Relay 1

UP:

PIN 87 = Constant 12 Volts ( + )
PIN 87a = GROUND
PIN 30 = BLACK wire from Power Window Motor
PIN 85 = Negative Input from UP Pin on Switch
PIN 86 = Constant 12 volt ( + )Relay 2

DOWN:

PIN 87 = Constant 12 Volts ( + )
PIN 87a = GROUND
PIN 30 = BLACK wire from Power Window Motor
PIN 85 = Negative Input from DOWN Pin on Switch
PIN 86 = Constant 12 volt ( + )

WOW learned a lot from this post thanks guys!

Im trying to accomplish the same thing. I purchased all of the motors and stock switches i need to convert my manual windows to power ones on my Dodge Dakota. Ive tried looking for some reverse polarity switches that would look good and do the job but to no avail.

Ideally id like to use my stock factory switches i purchased if possible. From this post i gather i need 2 spdt relays that have 87a and 87 pins. I read in another post ones from Autozone do not have these. On my window motors i have 2 wires coming from it. But from mo12v, i only see where the one wire goes on the relay. Am I missing anything here?

Thanks Ryan.

NO....That was an OOOPPPPPPSSSS

It should read:

2 SPDT RELAYS:

Relay 1

UP:

PIN 87 = Constant 12 Volts ( + )
PIN 87a = GROUND
PIN 30 = RED wire from Power Window Motor
PIN 85 = Negative Input from UP Pin on Switch
PIN 86 = Constant 12 volt ( + )Relay 2

DOWN:

PIN 87 = Constant 12 Volts ( + )
PIN 87a = GROUND
PIN 30 = BLACK wire from Power Window Motor
PIN 85 = Negative Input from DOWN Pin on Switch
PIN 86 = Constant 12 volt ( + )

Darn Brain.............
