I am not an installer, but when I took my 2002 Camaro Z28 to a professional to have a remote started put in, I was told that they would have to disable the factory alarm for the system to work. From the factory I have Keyless entry, trunk release, and factory alarm in a four button remote.

Is there a system which will work without having to disable the factory alarm.

P.S. I decided to hold off on the remote starter installation until I did some research on the subject.

Thanks,

I would look at a remote start/keyless entry system that does what the factory remtoe used to.  IE remote start, keyless entry, trunk pop.  Just my .02.

The remote start can be integrated to work with the factory alarm.  He likely didn't mean that he was disabling it but rather just disarming it when doors are unlocked etc.  But I would make sure you are very clear on just what he is doing.

Many thanks to all who have responded to my post! I have resolved the problem as follows:

I'm not sure if the original installer did not know exactly how to, or if the brand of remote simply was not capable, but I discovered that the company that makes "Viper" brand electronics (and about a dozen more) had no problem with my car. I think the website is "dedicatedelectronics" or something like that, anyway I was able to get a list of local dealer/installers on-line, and have a new Viper system in the car now. It works great.

Thanks again
