python alarm won't stop

I have had this alarm in my cherokee for a couple of years with no problem. I recently installed door lock actuators (not hooked up to the alarm as of yet). After doing this I noticed my alarm was really weak sounding when I'd arm it, and wouldn't sound at all when I disarmed it. Then about a week later, I forgot the alarm was set and opened the door. The alarm went off and wouldn't stop. When I pushed the button on the remote, I could hear a click by the brain, the alarm would beep around 5 times really fast (much faster than normal) and then immediately go full blown without a pause. I tried the valet button with the car on, but it wouldn't do anything either. I had to pull the connector for the main wires out of the "brain" before it would shut off.

I checked the wires near the brain and nothing seems out of place. I also pulled the door locks out of their power source just to see if it made a difference and it didn't.

What are possible causes for this so I have some places to start checking?

a loose ground wire... that definitely could've happened. thanks a lot I'll check that!
