I was checking out these bypass modules and they say you need a scan tool to program the modules into the car. Does this mean I have to take the car to the dealer to get these programmed or can I just take the module and have it programmed or do I have to purchase the tool?

If you don't have the proper Scan Tool.....Dealer is an option or some Parts places may have Scan Tool in your area As the years go by......I see it getting worse for the DIYer and more expensive for the 12volt shopMO

I can only comment on the VW box. To program a new key to a VW, you need 3 things. 1) Vag-Com or a VA1551 scan tool. With this, you can get the cluster's immobilizer info (2nd thing). 2) Take this 5 or 7 digit pin to the dealer, along with VIN, and customer info. They will then get you an SKC (Secure Key Code) that you can use to enter the key learning procedure. Now, rumor has it that the dealers don't even give out the SKC anymore because they just get it directly into the scan tool courtesy of their new GECKO information network. All in all.... not a fun procedure to learn a bypass. I stick to using the valet key, personally. Gus Wherever I go, that is where I end up......
