remote starter control switch

The override switch on my remote starter (no keyless entry or alarm) broke. Is there a special kind of switch I need to replace it with. I tried a regular switch, but the led and dash lights just keep blinking...I think it just keeps powering up the acc and ignition wires. The manual says this is due to a defective switch. Any ideas? Thanks!

you either have a toggle switch (on/off type) or a push button type switch and if it is the push button type,the system must be going into and out of valet or program mode.you should temporarily unplug the valet switch from auto start module and see if it solves the problem and go to any parts or accessories store with your sample switch and buy another.
