I just installed this unit in my '86 Dodge aries simple enough right??  Wrong!! I got it all hooked up everything seemed fine hood closed programed remote lights flashing as they should. I try to start it and i get 1 flash plus 4 quick ones. I check to see and the manual says brake applied, hood open!!  Well that wasn't the case. Could anyone tell me what's the deal?? Driving me nuts!! Is the unit defective?   Thanks

Make sure that the hood pin switch is not getting a ground signal at the CPU of the CS423.

The manual says to start the car with the key to program the remotes that's no problem and worked well. What i meant was i stood with the hood open, remote in hand hood pin switch wire in hand, still got the 4 fashes. Does that explain it better??

I hope this is not a manual transmission, but if not, I would make sure that the jumper is not pulled that you have to pull if you are installing on a manual transmission. I only suggest this because if it was removed, you would get four flashes since you didn't put it in ready mode.
You could try to relearn your tach, and make sure that you hold the start button until the parking lights turn on and then off. then wait until they come back on before turning the car off and dont release the brake until the 2 fast and 2 slow flashes. If the parking lights dont come on and stay on after you release the start button, then you need a better tach signal. If the tach learning was successful, the car should start after closing the hood or just pushing down the pin. If it doesnt start then I would almost guarantee that the jumper was removed from the PCB on the remote starter.
Keep us posted

Just came in from doing the tach learning again. and yes i thought about that too. I was almost hoping to find it missing (the jumper) but it was there. I played with it to make sure it was making good contact, it seems fine. Could it be put in "ready mode" with the pin installed? It's very frustrating i'm sure everything else is fine ,but  i won't know till i get past this!!  Thanks for the input. By the way it's an automatic.

Disconnect all trigger points that you have on the unit after you have programmed the remote & tach wire. Try to remote start it and see if the problem persists. Make sure you disconnect the wires within 3 " of the connector not at the switches because if there is a short anywhere between the connection of the wire and the trigger wire, diconnecting it at the harness will bypass it.
