Sorry if this is a basic question. I'm installing a remote start in an 01 Infiniti QX4, and was unsure about the 2nd starter wire. The starter (viper 160xv) supplies a 2nd ignition out, can this be used as a 2nd starter too, or should I just wire up a relay for the 2nd starter?
Thanks

Does the 160xv have a separate relay pack (with XCRS printed on it), and a ribbon cable running to the brain........or are the ignition and starter outputs coming directly from the brain?
If the relay pack is separate, it is possible (and easy) to modify the ribbon cable so that the Ignition 2 output will instead behave as another starter output.
Also, double-check the programming options.....occasionally, they'll allow you to reprogram what the output does.

I,m not entirely sure if you can program a high current output on that unit. but if you cant proogram an output for starter you should just be able to trigger a relay with the original starter wire.

it is a seperate relay pack. I checked the reprogram options, but for that wire the options are 2nd ignition or 2nd accessory.
I guess I would have to wire a relay for the 2nd accessory anyways, so I can just wire the 2nd starter relay and use the accessory as is.
with a relay for a 2nd starter, do I connect that to the starter side wire from the relay pack? Is it absolutely neccassary to even cut the 1st starter wire or is that just for wiring a starter kill?

If you are not using the accseory wire and want to use that as a 2nd starter, Look at the small thin ribbon. The purp wire is the starter turn on. If you were to cut the orange wire (accesory) and connect a wire from the purp wire to the orange wire you can use the Heavy guage Orange wire as a 2nd starter wire.

I do this sometimes. And thats why DEI made a seperate relay packet instead of building it into the brain.

Yeah, I almost agree with what captainzab says.
I would use the orange accessory output to power up the car's heater-accessory wire.
The blue/white radio-accessory wire is not needed for remote start; I prefer my radio to remain off during remote start anyway.
--------------------------
Go into the ribbon harness for the relay pack.......
Cut the thin pink/white second-ignition trigger wire in half.
The side that's coming from the brain won't be used; tape it off.
Strip open (but don't cut) the thin purple wire. Take the pink/white that's going into the relay pack, and jump it onto the thin purple.
After you've done that, your thick pink/white will now behave as a second starter output.

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
