im putting a new alarm on my dads truck for him,he has the bone stock basic truck with no power door locks or anything.im adding a 771 viper remote start for him.i added locks and they work great, everything seems to work fine but it wont start.it cranks, then dies over and over again.i know you are thinking its the vats system, but it cant be,i dont even think this truck has one, truck starts fine with a spare home depot key.im leaning towards something to do with the tach signal.i have it programmed to run off the tach and the jumper set to tach.i metered out the coil wires and found the white w/ black strip wire for the tach.

the diagram i found for the truck said it had a second ignition white wire, there is no white wire in the switch harness at all, there is a beige colored wire but no white.so im down to it being a tach issue or the ignition wires?

any help?

The truck has PASSLock II, not VATS. You will probably notice the "SECURITY" icon flashing on the dash when you attempt to remote start.
Audiovox AS-GM4, DEI 555L, or anything from bypasskit.com is good for Passlock bypass.
The second-ignition wire might look a little off-white, particularly now that the truck is 7 years old.
When you go to test the second ignition wire, on GM vehicles, it'll show power just as soon as you nudge the key forward from "off," and will continue to have power both in "run" and "start" positions. Also, this wire is often a little bit smaller than the others.
Whatever you do, if you have trouble with that wire............don't just skip it, because transmission damage is a likely result if you do.

The resistor is no longer in the key, starting with Passlock I, it is in the ignition cylinder. This allows you to pick up a $3.00 key and still retain a certain level of anti theft protection.
DEI's Passlock I explanation can be found here and the supplemental Passlock II information can be found here

my 1996 chevy cavalier has a anti-theft system (Passlock) which needed to be bypassed and the key is not the transponder type. The ignition in the vehicle has a resistor in it that the car checks to see if it's present.
Are there any gages on the dash blinking when the vehicle shuts down?
