i have installed an auto page  rs -660 alarm with remote starter in 2001 crv.  the autopage installation guide tells me not to connect to the dash dimmer switch but all the vehicle wiring diagrams say the red / black  wire at switch is ok (positive) . will connecting to this wire damage dash dimmer as auto page guide says. should diode be used accross autopage light relay?

When they say to not connect it to the dimmer they are referring to the dimmer side of the switch. In some vehicles the parking light wire and the dimmer wire are the same color and test just like the parking lights, but the dimmer wire's voltage will increase and decrease with the dimmer switch. As long as the wire you test does not increase and decrease with the dimmer you are on the right wire. If you connect to the dimmer side of the switch, you will burn out the dimmer itself this is why they say not to connect it there.
