Hello,
I have a Avital 4400 remote start alarm with pager that I am installing in a 1996 Toyota Tacoma. I bought this to put in my automatic truck but sold it and bought a manual trans vehicle. So instead of installing the remote start portion of the alarm, I just installed the door trigger, parking lights, and keyless entry.
The problem I'm having is that when the alarm goes off, it beeps 4 times when I un-arm it but it won't reset when I turn the ignition on. Its annoying because the led flashes while driving. I realized that there is no wire anywhere for switched ignition. Is this wire in the remote start portion of the harness? The instruction manual doesn't have one anywhere. I'm also having a problem getting it into programming mode. Any help would be appreciated.

The small yellow in the ribbon harness from the brain to the XCRS (right next to the red) is ignition input. This wire needs to be hooked up for those features to work.

Thanks for the info.  Does this mean I have to install the entire XCRS?  Like I said, it's a manual tranny truck and I don't want remote start.

What you can do is install the whole XCRS harness and have your BLACK/ white wire on a toggle switch so that it wont remote start if you press the button by mistake.  If DEI wasnt lying to me then there should be a special sensor thats coming out soon for manual transmission cars to remote start safely(during a break in a training session, a DEI tech talked about this cool piece).  when it comes out you can just install the sensor and your all done for the total package.

If you don't want to use the XCRS for starter kill then you only need the small red w/fuse and small yellow.
If you do want starter kill, then hook up the XCRS minus the Orange, and Pink/White and do not hook the BLACK/ white neutral safety input to anything. If the BLACK/ white does not see ground the remote start will never engage.
