I just installed a Bulldog 82I remote starter with a DesignTech universal bypass. Worked flawlessly for the past 2 days. I let the truck sit overnight and tried to start it today and it shut off (not stall, truck shuts off) after running for about 10~15 seconds. It's cold outside (28 degrees). After I warmed it up with the key it would start with the remote starter and keep running.

I have kind of ruled out the bypass seeing as how the car shut off and the security light did not do anything abnormal. Also checked the resistances again with the bypass and car cold and it was within .005k ohm (less than half of a percent difference).

I dont have the tach option on the remote starter setup, could this have something to do with why it is shutting off. Maybe the engine acts a little differently when it is cold. I didn't think I would need it since the truck always starts in 1/2 a second or less, warm or cold.

Any Ideas?

use a Tach wire it will star everytime, but first you will have to program your unit to accept a tach signal see the installation manual. also there is a difference when is cold in the morning, I always do my remote starters using a Tach wire and let me tell you, I have very few returns. But then again if you don't want to use the Tach wire, you can always increase the crank time and cook the starter 2001 Chevy S10 Shut off problem -- posted image.

*3 The PCM is located on the passenger fender. On the 2.2L the wire is in a black 80 pin plug pin 10, and on the 4.3L the wire is in a red 32 pin plug pin 20.

From which side of the connector is pin 10. There are alot of wires in there.

Id hate to mess something up with the PCM.

If you can count the pins Start counting from left to right or the other way around if a white wire falls in pin 10 then you probablly have the right wire. If not the car won't learn tach. But you can also catch the tach at this locantion, less wires.

TACH== White AT COIL TOP OF ENG PASS SIDE

I'm assuming you have the 2.2 L??

P.S. don't unplug the plugs

OK I just had the same trouble finding the tach. I ended up finding it at the PCM, but there was no red plug or whatever they referred to. At least there wasnt one on the car I was working on. I had the 4.3L engine and the connectors were screwed in and there were only two that were the same color and they were grayish color. The PCM is the cast aluminum box ontop of the window washer fluid reservoir. To easily access the wire, I disconnected the PCM from the reservoir and turned it over. There are still a few white wires there, but I think I rememebr the right one was in the lower right harness when you are looking down at it. Or if you are looking at it from the side the 2 main plugs are on, it would be in the lower left side. Dont leave the PCM upside down for too long because the car wont start then. I assume that it shuts off the fuel pump because it thinks the car is upside down. if you dont want to remove it from the reseroir you can look for the wire in the large harness leading up to it, but then you are looking through a bunch of wires.

Ok i have learned that when it is really cold outside, that the device that picks up the magnetic field from wraping the wire around the spark plug breaks down and doesn't pick up the field which makes the brain think that the engine is not running and shuts off and trys again. I always do tachwires since i learned that.
