is it possible to get the 30 /40amps

constant, or are the relays just designed for a single pulse or short-term power.   I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to actually use thinner gauge wire (say 18) and still get the full 30 amps available from the relay capacity...   AM I LIMITED BY what I put to 30 or 86/87? (which is the limiting factor?)
thanks for any help.... (I trying to power an AMP without having to use 8 or 10 gauge running minimal thick-gauge wire)...

They are designed (and rated) for continous use.

However, if you are pulling 30A of current through a relay you will need the same size wire you would need if you were pulling 30A straight from the battery.  The relay won't allow smaller wire to magically be able to carry more current.

If you tried to pull 30A through an 18awg wire I would think that would lead to a nice little fire.
