I installed a push button starter that requires no keys; it requires a 12v signal to activate, so I have it hooked to my alarm at the only wire that toggles when armed or disarmed, this wire is a (-) signal that when armed the wire puts out a -500ma, but when disarmed it is open.

So I hooked up a relay with 86 to 12v and 85 to my alarm trigger (-), then 30 to 12v and 87a to my push button starter enable. This IS working, but the problem is, when my car is off and alarm armed, the relay is always energized.

Is there another way to get 12v to my push button starter when alarm is disarmed without having a relay energized 19 hours a day?

basically i have it hooked up like this, where a relay is ezergized when armed.

so im assuming it is not a problem, or is it not recommended to have a relay ezergized all the time?

i take that back, now i see it is only on when ign is on....

Actually the way you described your connections, the relay will be active all the time the car is off and the alarm is armed, the diagram you posted is different in that it only will be active when the igniton is on and the alarm is armed! If you were to wire it like that you would have to turn on the ignition with the keys first and then activate the pushbutton starter (effectively defeating the purpose of the pushbutton)

you are exactly correct.

should i look into a low draw relay? is there a problem with a relay being energized all the time, other than the battery drain, i havent run into a dead battery yet, the car has sit for up to three days at one point, and did have any issues starting..

ideally, i need something that is wired to 12v constant and energized all the time, and then when i arm my alarm it would send it a negative signal and disengage said circuit.

Maybe use the NO (#87) contact instead and have the alarm energise the relay to disengage it.

Mind you, I think starter inhibits are close to useless. If you have a screwdriver or similar, and can open the bonnet, and .....

what i really need is for my alarm to have a (-) signal when disarmed, but mine only has a (-) when armed.

what my push button starter is looking for is +12V to activate, or for me to be able to start the car, right now im using a relay for NC and it disenguages the push button so one will not be able to start the car when alarm is armed. if i use the #87 post it will be opposite of what i need, it will start when the alarm is armed, but wont start when its disarmed..

and its tough to use a screw driver when the ecu is looking for a chiped key...
