I'm looking for a 20 amp ignition source on my 2001 ford ranger. Does anybody know of a good

spot under the hood. I would like to wire my air compressor into the factory's electrical box but

I can't find an ignition source there.

You don't have to go through the firewall.... just tap into the ignition wire at the key cylinder. The lower portion of the driver's dash will reveal the ignition wires and you just attach the wire to the target wire and solder the connection.

I'm trying to find a source in the engine bay of my truck for the air compressor.

You can use an ignition wire from the fuse box located in the eingine compartment.

I tried finding one that came on with the igniton in the fuse box but I didn't have any luck. Do you know of a good place to look at? My owners manual lists what all the fuses are for and I dried to see if any of them came on with the key, but I didn't have any luck. Any suggestions? If I find an empty spot that turns on with the key is it difficult to try and wire my air compressor into this so I can make it look nice.

I've tried finding electrical schmatics for my truck but I haven't had any luck where is a good place to find them.

If one of the terminals are empty and is an ignition source then use a spade connector on the end of the wire to connect to the terminal. Most fuse boxes use a blade type fuse so using a spade connector would work perfectly. As for finding an ignition wire.... keep testing. I 'm not familiar with the engine compartment of the 2001 Ford, but there has to be an ignition source in the fuse box somewhere ?
