06 kia spectra

Hi, Finally decided to sign up after lurking around the12volt.com for the past few months. I searched but couldn't find anything that specifically said 06 Kia Spectra for a remote start install. If the wiring is the same for 04 and 06 please let me know and I'll go with that wiring diagram / information. It is not my car (fiance) so a few of these questions might seem redundant. Do Kia's have any sort of immobilizer system? Will using the factory remote fob provide any problems (looking at avital 4003)? Any suggestions for a remote start since the car already has alarm, and remote / power locks? Thanks.

No, if the car is running the remote will not unlock the doors.

If you use an "Add on" remote starter that uses something like 3 locks in a row from the Factory remote to start the car, once it is running the factory remote will not unlock the car.  Look at getting remote start with keyless entry system.  A quality remote start w/keyless usually comes with two remotes, that would allow you to leave the factory remotes at home.  They would still work but just be redundant.

2005 and 2006 are the same for wiring.  Your car probably has a transponder type immobilizer.  Fortin lists a bypass module but it requires a dealer scan tool and 2 working keys to program.  Might be easier and cheaper to do a "key in the box" with a spare key.

It is not my car and she doesn't want an extra alarm, only the remote start. She doesn't like having to sit in her car when it is cold out (we live in Minnesota) Maybe I'm missing something but why does it matter if the fob unlocks the car once it is running? Can't the key just be used? I don't know much of anything about Kia's...I come from VW's, BMW's and classic cars so this is foreign to me. Thanks for the suggestions :)

Many customers dislike having to actually use a key to open the doors.  Things like kids, arms full of packages, snow & ice, etc.  They do make remote start systems with keyless entry and no alarm.  That way you can have it all.  Only two more wires and the antenna to hook up, new remotes and longer range.  The price isn't all that much different.Soldering is fun!

Ok, I'm intrigued...have an example or product? She said that she doesn't care about having to use the key to unlock the car. :shurg: I'm just researching options for her to get a remote start and the Avital 4003 was the first thing I came across that seemed to have all the features she wants / needs. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

IMHO...    A nice unit for a DIYer would be the Ultra Start U1272-XR PRO with the DEI 556U bypass.  Remote start and keyless entry.  No alarm.  Onboard 5th relay that can be set to ACC2 for your Kia.  Two small, durable remotes with decent range.  Nice optional horn honk confirmations, pit stop mode, car finder feature.   Easy to configure and program.  Available "online" for about $50.  The 556U "key in the box" bypass is also available "online" for around $15.

Thanks for the suggestion kreg357. I ordered both of those for 58$ BNIB for her Christmas present. Hope she likes it...lol. Next question is I've found for some cars and not others that there is a harness that you can put between the ignition and the existing wires so you don't have to cut / tamper with the factory harness. It has wires to connect the remote start to. Anybody know if anything is available like that for a Kia? I'm not sure if it even exists but seems like a good idea. that would expedite the install process.
