1994 Mustang Mach 460 Wiring information

I'm trying to replace the factory Mach 460 tape deck with a Alpine CDA-7998. Everyone I ask gives me a different answer as to what speakers the factory amps power and what speakers the head unit powers (If any). Can anyone give me a definitive answer?

The head unit does not power any speakers.  However, one of the factory amplifiers is located under the cd player up behind the dash, and I suspect some people might confuse that with the head unit.  You can definitely tell the difference though as it has heat dissipating fins all over it.  Anyways, the front amp is for the highs for all of the speakers, and then the two rear amps are for the lows for all of the speakers.

Thanks for the information. Do you know if this would this be the same for a Mach 460 that did not have the factory CD, just a AM/FM cassette?

Also, I have looked on all the Mustang forums and most posts say you can plug a head unit into the factory 460 amps without using any converters. Have you tried this?

Sorry I slaughtered your name in my first reply. After pulling the head unit and some of the interior out of the car and following the link in your post your information is correct. After talking to most of the installation shops in central Florida and looking at your pdf files you are the only one that got it right.

hahaha you didn't slaughter it---I've seen worse.  Glad to hear that page helped you out, and thanks for the update.  It's always useful to know whether or not the stuff I suggest to people actually ends up working--not everyone bothers to write back and say whether or not I was right.

BTW enjoy that Alpine--the 7998 is one heck of a head unit.
