Please give me the specifics on your vehicle:

Hey jaggers814 ;

The Vampire system that you have is an easy installation unit. Before you start to install try to use the tachless feature on the remote starter and if the system accepts the voltage from the Chevy, then you will not have to find yourself a tach wire.

 You can go to this link for the wiring information you need : https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1989-91&make=Chevrolet&model=Suburban&ID=17467&type=Alarm and this is a straight forward installation . The only problem you might have will be that the door lock and unlock on the Vampire system is only a negative output trigger, I'm not 100 % sure about the newer Vampire systems but the older ones only had a negative trigger output for the keyless entry. What you will need to do is to reverse the trigger out put of the Vampire alarm to ( + ) by hooking up 2 relays ( one for unlock and one for lock ) :

  • 86 + 87 pin : connect 12 volts constant
  • 85 pin : connect lock / unlock wire form Vampire alarm
  • 30 pin : goes to lock / unlock wire of the Chevy

Hope this helps you out and if you need some more help just post.

Best Regards,

Jeff

Muscle Cars:

I will be installing it on a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban 1500.  It has power windows, power locks, 4 doors, and an automatic transmission. My truck does not have a stock keyless entry, remote start or antitheft device.  The Vampire system I bought, has an alarm, keyless entry and remote start.  It came with two remotes that have 4 buttons each.  It did come with an install guide but it is very vague and does not help a begginer much.  All the parts listed on the box were included.  It is model 4040 Alarm/Starter, combo 4 button.  It also came with a pin to install that kill the engine if the hood is opened, but I am not sure how this hooks up.  I think you connect the wire into the bottom and when the hood is opened it grounds the system?  Does this sound right?

Vampire remote start alarm combo:

The pin is a pin switch like the door switch that turn your light on when opened. You need to install that under the hood so the hood pushes it down when closed.
