I started working on the user section that would allow users to add vehicle wiring records. In doing so, I've come across some potential problems. The main one being the amount of fields and selections required to enter complete and accurate information. For alarms alone, there are well over 100 fields to complete. So what I'm thinking to narrow this whole thing down to simplify it is to limit the necessary flieds to year, make, model, and type of info along with one text area for all info you want to enter. While it would be nice to have all records entered and organized as I have them now (and I'll continue to add mine to what I already have), realistically it's unlikely that many if any would be willing to fill in so many fields as I had originally planned. Doing it this way would still be searchable and the users would still be able to edit their own entries.

All input on this matter would be appreciated. Tell me what the minimum fields you think should be required for alarms, stereos, and cruise controls or if what I have in mind would be satisfactory. As soon as I reach a decision on what will work best for most, I'll write it, put it online, and everyone can have at it.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Yikes@100+ fields to enter, the downsized idea sounds like it would be the easiest to use.... 4 fields total to enter, right?

Yes... you would first select what type of info you want to enter ( Alarm, Stereo, or Cruise Control), then you would enter Year, Make, and Model of vehicle, then you could enter or paste all of your info into a textarea like the one used to post a message here. So after you select what type of info, there would only be 4 fields to complete.
