Just a little information:

Most 1998 and 1999, GM and all 2000 up require Schoch brand GM02 harness adapter.

Door chime will not work, keyless entry will not work, strange transmission functions occur without GM02 harness adapter for radio.

Depends on the vehicle model from what I've experienced. I have done several vehicles without the GM02 by customer's request and they have only lost the door chime.

Same here i have also used this device that has an ugly bulky kind of speaker that has to be mounted. but it all worked fine never had problems with the trans with or without additional device to keep chimes. the only thing that the radio has the is slightly part of the trans is the vss wire which controls the volume at high speeds. to counter the outside volume.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

The only things that are lost are

door chime   and     any programable features you could do with the fact. radio.

the fact. radio was able to control programming of the keyless entry system as well as a short cut to resetting some warning lights on the dash.  Nothing bad will happen if you don't use this harness.

I love this topic cause no one really knows what it's about. There are people who think they do but don't really. Just for liability i use it if it lists it. They will always lose something, just depends on how important. For instance on my 2004 cavi the only thing it has is the rap and door chime. However the door chime is important for the fact that it lets you know when the key are in the ignition or left the headlights on and seatbelt warnings. That to me is imortant.
