Video Wiring

Usually you I install a multi video switcher module . Seeing that the customer is paying for it anyway & also this is more convient for the suctomer because they can have multi source units going to different video screens throughout the car. Each person has control over what video source they are playing from a wired remote control. I hope this is what you were looking for as far as an answer to your question.

Do the equipment that your installing not have the wiring diagrams with them ? What vehicle are you installing it into ?

Depending on which monitors that you are installing the basic wires are GROUND, CONTANT POWER, SWITCHED POWER and REMOTE TURN ON. The video RCA and some have audio as well are sel explanatory . The installation is very simple just have to run primary wire to all these connection from the head unit or to the ignition switch. I prefer to go straight o a distribution block and if there is none, then I try to find an empty space in the fuse box.

Thanks for the info. I one other question. I know how to connect the fm modulator to the radio and the A/V system. I also know how to wire the on/off switch for the fm modulator. I would like to know where I would wire the power for the VCR/DVD to?  If I am doing headrest monitors (2) , where do I plug the video cable from the headrest monitor into?

From what I read above I would run one wire from the headunit to Ground, Constant Power and switched power, correct? Would I run the wire from the video source to the ignition wire at the back of the headunit?

Most video monitors have a databus connector ( alot like the changer cables on most common brand CD changers ) that has all the wires going into the back of the monitor. The one that I use most often is the Pyle ( Sharp, Power Acoustik, etc  all the same manufacturer ) and they have a single junction box where all the wires are connected to ( input and output wires are all in this junction box ). There are the three wires listed above and then on the otherside , there are two connectors:

• 1. Video Input RCA
• 2. Databus connector

All you need to do is run the wires from this junction box to the plug that connects to the monitor and hide the wires and your done. Tah dahh ! Like magic you have instant video.

The power to the VCR/DVD will have to come from either your battery or your switched ignition wire under your dash. If you are running an indash DVD player, you can just tap off og the head unit that you already got, but if it's a trunk mounted DVD/VCR then you will need to run the appropriate wires from the trunk to the fuse box or the ignition column. Look to see what the instructions ask for as far as connections go and go from there. Most likely you will need a switched ignition source so the best place is to grab it from the igntion wires or wire a relay in line to power the player.

Would this be the correct way to install video?

Fm modulator with 3 wire( red, yellow, black) The balck is the ground, the red is ignition and the yellow is the constant. Can I T tap these wires into the same wires that run through the wire harness? I was told that when putting in the dvd player I should run the power to the iginition wire that run under the steering column, is this ok?

The colors that you listed are industry standard colors, but make sure of this by verifying the wire colors to the manufacturer wiring diagram for the FM modulator. I highly suggest NOT TO use T-taps ( even if they are 3M ones ) as the connection is not 100 %. Use solder for a headache free installation a a 0 % return from customers for failed connections .

You can run the DVD wires to the ignition wires coming from the ignition switch or straight to the fuse box.... doesn't matter. If it's too hard to get to the ignition wires, then go to the fuse box.
