Park brake on AVIC-N2, Please dont flame

I’m soon going to install a Pioneer AVIC-N2, and I have a questions about that unit’s parking brake interlock. Before anyone flames me, yes I searched and read ALL the many previous posts on this topic, but I can’t seem to find anything that directly addresses my question. If there is a previous post that answers me, then please point me to it, and I apologize for the duplication. I also tried to post this in the Announcement topic so as not to make a new thread, but it is closed.

Here goes: I don’t mind not being able to control the nav while the vehicle is in motion; in fact, most factory nav systems that I’ve seen also disable this. The difference is that factory systems generally let you use the controls again when at a stoplight, while the N2 wants you to have the parking brake engaged. I’m not trying to fully defeat the safety features, I’d be very happy with a factory nav equivalent system, so my questions are:

1) When the vehicle is stopped, VSS and GPS read zero anyway, so if I ground the parking brake line (the way people used to do on the N1), would I then have a system that works when stopped? Some things I’ve read seem to imply that the N2 is “smart” so that grounding the parking brake will itself cause an error, unless a toggle is used. Is this correct?

2) If the N2 is smart, then instead of using a toggle to ground/unground the parking brake line, can I wire it up to the brake lights? That way, the braking cycle will naturally toggle the system, and when stepping on the brake at a red light, the system will read the parking brake as engaged and allow input. If this is needed, can somebody please give me some advice on how to wire this up (relays, etc.)?

3) If the above is possible and necessary, then is there a way to additionally hook up the parking brake sensor to the P position on my gearshift, so that when the car is truly parked nav info can be input even without stepping on the brake. This would be useful when the car is parked at home and I want to input a lengthy route. Again, wiring advice would be appreciated.
