Hey im looking into getting the mini-itx board and case and using it in my car.  Now i have a few questions, does this board run on any standard OS?  How would you go about powering the board?  If i get a case that comes with a power supply...how owul di gain power from the car itself.  I am pretty new to this stuff but i have a strong base in computers and electronics, just never actually doing it in my car.  I have no problem wiring the audio wires and stuff like that...im just questioning how to power such things?  Your help will be greatly appreciated since im new to all of this

well you can get a power inverter if this is a ac pluged system and you can either use cig lighter or hardwire it . and in that case run one 8 guage wire from bat through the cars firewall and connect it to poss side of inverter than take neggative side and ground it to any clean metal peice of the car under rug etc . whatch where you drill and two add atleast a 30 fuse in the line from the battery about 6 to 12 inches from the initial connection to the batt.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

YEa, you can get the mini itx boards with dc-dc.  You can run any OS on these boards, but the most feasable choice would be either linux or windows.  I would choose linux personally because of its size and the fact that it is more customizable than windows.  Remember that the hard drive must be surrounded in shock absorbant material to prevent damage!  Please dont forget this!  Good luck withthe project.

FrnkPwrs--from what the guys on mp3car.com say i wouldn't use anything but a solid mount for the hard drive.  and mount it sideways.  that comes from years of experience with car computers
