I'm looking to update my old 5 band radar detector to a new one. Just wanted to get some imput on which units you guys perfer. I've been leaning towards the 8500 escort from the few review I read online...but "im open for any recommendations at this point. Thanks in advance to anyone who posts.

My preference has been to drive the speed limit. Valentine has been recommended to me as the fanciest. I do the like the idea of components placed around the vehicle rather than just the one sensor on the windshield.

Valentine One is the only recommendation I ever get on BMW forums. The reviews for it are pretty good as well.

anyone have an opinion on rocky mountain radar? my supplier carries it but I never had anyone ask me for one until now.

I say the STI driver from beltronics but thats cause I live in the DC metro area(the only area in the country were radar detectors are illegal)... the STI and the Valentine One or about equal but the STI is undetectable from any VR-2 or Spectra I-IV I drive by HPOs all the time and they have no clue, I'll pick up their radar before their even insight... so I would recommend the STI to anyone its saved me 1000's and has paid for its self

I work in the Law Enforcement field and to be honest I can tell how fast you are traveling before your radar beeps. Some other officers leave theirs on the entire time that they are on patrol, as of the new year our area supervisors instructed us not to do so Good Luck :)

True, but unless the officer is using laser, a good radar detector will set off an alert when it detects the radar beam, which may be targeted on the vehicles ahead of you. A radar detector is pretty useless if you're all alone on the road though.

I had a Passport 8500 until it was stolen about 2 months ago. I loved it while I had it, but since then I've chosen to obey speed laws slightly more often radar detectors? -- posted image.

Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.
