Spart Plug Ignition Circuit

Hello, I was just reffered to this site, and all I can say is wow, I wish I could have found this site earlier :)

This is a VERY fun project for anybody who loves fire and noise

I understand that this circuit is very simple, but with 10,000 Volts, I dont want to screw up. I have found a few schematics, but nothing is listing things in detail.

Finding the coil, spart plug, and spark plug wires won't be the problem, but Im not really sure about the other parts needed, and exact specifications on these parts.

If you can provide me with any information, it will be greatly appreciated.

Actually this is an easy circuit to get the spark, you need to make an AC output to the primary of an ignition coil at a frequency around a 1KHz (well actually the frequency isnt that important). The problem is the distribution, do you have a cap and rotor setup?

Opps i just read that and saw its only 1 plug... Well then it is easy, just provide a good high voltage to arc on the spark plug.

I will draw you up a circuit if you want, but you gotta put a "the12volt.com" sticker on the kart.       j/k

Ok, now its been awhile, but I'm taking a stab that U-1 is a time circuit? I just recognized 555, and from what I can remember, it's a time circuit... correct?

Ok, as far as the capacitors go.... what is nF... I know of uF, but what is nF... man I hate being a no0b!

the 555 is a 555 timer chip. Its just one integrated circuit.

nF is nano Farad, (10^-9) 100nF = .1uF : 10nF = .01 uF
