I recently installed a head unit in my girlfriends 99 escort. Now the heater fan doesn't kick on. I checked all the fuses everything is hooked up and we're getting heat, but no fan. This problem may be coincidental, her AC died about a week before, but I have one problem that is troubling me. I found what appears to be an extra harness (possibly for cruise control, premium sound or some other opiton she doesn't have. All heat controls and stereo wirwes are connected but there is an extra harness, the plastic body is red and it has an orange,a black, an aqua / YELLOW and white wires. If anybody has any ideas about what this goes to it would be great. I looked all over and couldn't find anything that this plugs into but i may have innadvertantly knocked it out of view. I checked the wiring diagrams on here and found nothing. Thanks.

Yeah its the oval bezel with both the hole for the radio and heat controls. I bought a Schosche adapter and it all appears to be hooked up properly. (Even after one of the plastic braces on the side snapped and I had to JB weld it, also one of the leads to one of the illumination bulbs snagged during install and I had to swing by the local electronics store and find a replacement.) This has been the install from hell.

This may be far fetched, but look on the driver's side around the gas pedal, there is the fan speed adjuster, I believe it is, but did you disconnect it for the install and reconnect it after??

I also lost power in my fan a couple months ago.  After  I bought the 99 escort I replaced the head unit a couple months later.  Everything worked fine for the last 4 years, but just recently the ac and heat fan quit working. I checked everthing and the fuses, and everything seemed to be fine.  I then took the fan itself out and put a battery to it and it worked fine also.  So, finally ,i put in the original head unit and the radio quit working also and still no fan.  So i put back in the other head unit, but can still not find the problem.  It pisses me off.

Luap, did the AC die first and then the fan?? The reason I'm asking is because this car was a hand me down, her father said that the AC died about a week before I did the install. None of us know exactly when the heater fan died because it was June when I did the install and it hadn't been used since probably April (utnil I tested it after the install). Yeah I can imagine it pissed you off, hell this pissed me of big time adn its not even my car.
