I have a new V8 Tundra that came through without factory cruise. Being that it's drive-by-wire, no aftermarket kits are available, so I looked at the wiring diagram for the truck to see whether OEM parts could be added. It appears that I must buy an entire steering wheel with cruise switch attached (according to the Toyota parts man), since the switch is not sold separately (though my steering wheel has a knockout for the switch). Also, the brake switch needs to be the double-pole version rather than the single pole version for the non-cruise-equipped truck. The wiring all appears to be in place to the ECM for the cruise switch.

My question is whether anyone has done this installation, and what problems were encountered? Does the ECM need to be addressed with a scan tool to activate the cruise?

Thanks.

OK,  I solved my own problem, so if anyone else happens to be in this situation, here it is:

The pickup is already completely wired for cruise control, including the proper brake switch. You only need two parts, which are "wire, cruise  sw", p/n 84633-08010, and "switch, speed c", p/n 84632-08020. I paid about $56 delivered for both. Obviously, it is necessary to r&r the airbag to install the switch, but it's a plug and play installation. The only minor issue is that it does not appear to be possible to order the little plastic trim piece that surrounds the cruise stalk, but you can trim the stock blank piece and add some rubber to keep dust out, like the factory piece.
