In painting interior parts such as plastic. Should you use adhesive promoter or primer or both before applying paint. Does this basically do the same thing???

both is a good idea........ppg and dupont both make a plastic system for painting plastics that work well.
the promoter helps the primer adhere to the material being primed.

i have had this problem too......it sux bad and it is really fruterating. my advice to you if you havent done it already is to wipe it down with laquer thinner then wax and grease remover. this will hopefully get rid of the evil that is making it wrinkle up.
it is more than likely some left over stuff on the dash like some sort of detail wipe or something else with silicone in it.
good luck

Hi, the best product you could use to match dashs and other plastic pieces in a car is SEM die. Its made for this application. ALl you have to do is scuff the piece up with a grey or red scotch brite pad. In the bodyshop i work in Ive never had a problem with SEM wrinkling or not sticking. SEm is a bout $15 a quart so its really cheap.

ANother thing to remeber is is the release agent thats in the plastic fromt he factory. A little trick to see if you have to use a promoter is cut a piece off the back, a little pice. Put it in water, if it floats you must promote. THats how we do it in the bodyshop.
