Making Speaker Spacers?

I want to make my own speaker spacers. What is the best way to do it? Should I use wood or plastic? What is best for sound? What tools do I need? I purchased some new Focal components and Morel coaxials for rear doors and need to make speaker spacers to fit my doors perfectly without hitting the glass or the front. Do I need a tool such as a band saw?

MDF works great.  A drill and a jig-saw is all you need, although a band saw might make the job go more quickly.  :)  Make a template out of paper and then use that to cut your MDF.  Be sure to pre-drill the screw holes. Support the12volt.com

I've decided to go the band saw route, using MDF. The only concern I have is about cutting MDF. Do I need to worry about any harmful invisible vapors from the cutting or are my concerns unnecessary? I can already foresee the clean cut spacers I am going to make. I will take pictures and post them here for anyone's viewing. I am already happy thinking about them. Thanks Mark

I was planning on joining the sheets with 4 nuts and bolts. If thats not good enough, what kind of glue should I use? I hope it is available at Home Depot. Do I need to treat the MDF with some solution to make it moisture proof like paint a layer of clear varnish?

You want to use fibreglass resin to coat the mdf after you have drilled the holes in it to mount the speakers and the spacer. The mdf will lose it's shape and expand if it has water exposed to it. This in turn will twist the basket of a speaker and or create air gaps around the speaker mount. Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
