hi i am very new to car electronics i have been wondering though about the hid conversion kits.
i was thinking about installing a kit in my car (1998 hyundai elantra) my questions are is it just as simple as flug the factory harness to the ballast and from the ballast to the buld or do i need an additional power and ground cable to power the ballast. which brings me to the next question is there a big current draw from my charging system when using hid's?
one guy told me that there is no extra current draw to power these bulbs but another guy told me the complete opposite i really appreciate the help.
i am an idiot

You will need to run a new power wire from the battery and connect it to terminal 30 of a relay. Connect the power wire of the ballast to terminal 87. Ground the Ballast. ground terminal 85 of the relay. Connect the original positive wire of the lights to terminal 86 of the relay. When connecting the wire to the battery, remember to install a fuse at the battery. You may need to use one relay per ballast.
The current draw is not substantial for your charging system, it is possibly more than the factory wiring is wanting to handle.

I have been installing many HID systems in peoples cars and not yet had a problem with voltage.

SAying that also my kits that i supply come with moulded plugs to suit the harness often.

and generally no cutting or splicing is involved, hid will use slight more power but only on power up

once they are running they actually you less power than a standard globe.

I agree that using a relay and off the battery will give you a better power supply but in all the cases i have done i havnt had a problem.

Regards

Tim

ok i installed mine in a 2008 Grand Prix and i get loads of interference with my stereo. i have them powered with a harness directly to the battery, and the signal wire is coming from the marker light. How do i fix the total lack of FM signal? would a FM signal booster help? i also have a Garmin 765T which has the traffic and gets that information through the FM. ever since i installed the HID's i get no traffic. i put the GPS in my buddy's car and it worked fine, traffic and all. then i put it back in the GP adn during the day when the lights are off it works fine, as soon as I turn on the headlights, all gone. how can i fix this??
