Would it be possible to make a rev counter out of LEDs??

i was thinking of having a couple of green ones, to orange then red as the revs increase. My car does not have a tacho at the moment and is manual transmition. Any body any idea how to do this?? I would be grateful for detailed explanations and diagrams please, not much knowledge!! Thanx

Thanx 4 your time

I have thought about doing a circuit like this for some time, but never wanted to bother. If done with a microcontroller it would not be all that hard, but it would be out of reach of most people being able to build (since they would need the chip programmer). I also thought about doing it with a freq to voltage converter and some op-amps / bar graph interface ... then i say why not just buy a tach? LED rev counter? -- posted image.

Yes, it is possible. There was someone here in the States
selling one for 2CV's (J.A., you know what those are!) but unless you have something odd to fit like that, I would have to second Xetmes' suggestion, and just buy a tach- both Smith's and VDO make small ones that will fit almost anywhere.
