push the park brake one notch before you start the truck.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

I haven't Tested this on my car yet, but I was reading this and I know it will work for the daytime running lights, but what about the twilight sentinel?  When it gets dark th elights come on, or even if i cover up the sensor on the top of the dash.  I never have to touch my headlights, but then I cannot turn them off while driving, I mean I have try by shootings to do and I have to borrow my wifes car if I want to have the element of surprise on my sidegm twilight sentinel -- posted image..

on the chevy SUV's and Trucks, press the domelight override button on and off three times.. this will turn it off.. I don't know if it will stay that way if you turn the key on and off and on again.. but when we are doing system checks and the lights come on, just hit the override button and kill the lights.. for the cars, I don't know how to turn them off completely, but if you want to creep up on someone, just pull the switch to parking lights, it will kill the headlights..the parking lights will be on, but, from what I remember, every time I see a drive by in the movies, the parking lights are always on, and then they turn on the headlights to drive away..

Hey Snoman, I know it is going to an extreme, but could you put one of the wires that control the sentinel on a switch that would basically disconnect the wire to disable just the sentinel and allow normal light switch operation using their factory switch?  I'm sure i would have to test for which wire to use.

I don't know if any of that is going thru the BCM.. I'm sure it is.. I've never really thought anything about it.. I know on the older caddies that there was a switch on the dash above the light switch.. also had a timer for it to shut off..

With all the stuff these days using a BMC, ECM, ECT... I would want to fool with anthing like that unless I had a schematic for it..

Don't know what model '99 truck he's talking about, but I 've got a '98 Blazer ZR2 I did this to. The sensor is a photo diode if I recall correctly and mine was in the passenger side dash speaker grille. I used a 2 or 3 volt zener diode to make the computer think the vehicle is in sunlight all the time. Pull the plug off the sensor and insert diode, tape and hide under grille. Unused sensor can be left in the hole in the grille. No cutting or anything. Did this in May of '98 and no problems so far. DRL's still worked fine, but that was the next thing to go. Pulled the diode in the fuse box. That won't work on newer models I've heard though.

I was looking for a much more temporary method of shutting off my lights.  I like not having to touch my headlight switch, that way I never leave them on or more importantly forget to turn them on.  I'm not saying I'm one of those idiots who go driving down the freeway without my lights on, but it is nice to not have to turn on and off lights.  If anyone knows of a way to put a switch on the sentinel and the DRL (since overriding the sentinel would still leave me with daytime running lights.)

Use the method that DavidL mentioned above only install a dpdt switch in line. That way it would be either manual or automatic depending on the position of the switch.

You could do the same with the DRL's as well.
