Typically, the brake wiring runs through the turn signal switch, which determines if the brake light stays on solid or blinks to indicate a turn. If the turn signal switch is in the 'off' position, the brake signal goes to both rear brake lights. If the turn signal switch is indicating a turn, the wire to that rear turn signal/brake light is disconnected from the brake light circuit and hooked the turn signal circuit.

What's happened, what are you rewiring, and what currently works? I'm trying to understand if you're starting the wiring from nothing, is this a rewire, a repair, or a modification..  it's an 88 S10.. are all the parts stock?

Jim

PS.. if it's worth $25 to ya, alldatadiy.com will sell you a one year subscription to all the technical manuals (including wiring diagrams) for that vehicle.. and each additional vehicle is only $15

We would like to use the stock wiring but there is a short some where but we cannot find it. We found both turnsignal wires comming out of the switch. He really wants to just rewire it all. I would like to keep all the wires stock. I got the turnsignals to work using a jumper wire but when I tried straight positive to the brake side of the buld, the wire got hot.
