Here's the car setup:

1986 Accord DX sedan

Pioneer Premiere DEH-P690UB

-loudness setting set to high

-high pass crossover set to 80hz

-low pass crossover set to 80hz

Memphis MCD1000 no crossovers set

Memphis MCA3004 no crossovers set

Kinetiks power cell (I don't remember the size)

Memphis 15-M1124 sub (never got around to replacing it for a dual coil blown speaker what's the problem? -- posted image.

) in a sealed box

Planet Audio 6.5" in all 4 locations

I got most of this stuff installed in summer 2005 (I think), and got the Planet speakers at least a year before that. The newest change is the HU in the spring of this year, which replaced a Sony CDX-CA860X that gave out.

Anyway, down to it:

Last night, the right front speaker blew (giving me the buzz buzz bass sounds). I'm not ready for this to happen! Can't it wait until AFTER I buy my new truck!!?? blown speaker what's the problem? -- posted image.

-Is this because the speaker blew out because the crossovers were set wrong? Should I have them set on the amps instead (I'd rather avoid this if possible since it's just screw type adjustments)?

-Is this because of possible condensation/water damage getting in the door?

-Is it just because the speaker is old and gave up from old age?

I haven't investigated any further due to work...

Turn off the loudness contour. Most are centered around 70 to 100Hz, so you are boosting the MOST right at the crossover point, causing the speakers to be DRASTICALLY overdriven, at the lowest frequencies you are allowing to them.

Gah, that's upsetting. I turned the loudness from medium to high just recently, which to me made the speakers sound more alive, mainly for highs (didn't need it so much, if at all for lows).

I have the ability to do things better through EQ settings on the deck, but I'm not that great trying to set those. :(

...since I can't edit, here comes a double post:

Everything else should have been OK then, right? Do I need to set the crossover point higher to something like 100 or 120?

Should there be a gap between the crossovers, like low at 80 and high at 100? I wouldn't think so, and really hated that restriction on my old deck.

My favorite part of the movie was those two and "the black album" blown speaker what's the problem? -- posted image.

if you changed the head unit, I think you need to set the gains on the amps. the new one may have higher voltage outputs than the old one, causing the amp to clip. the loudness would only make that worse, and could cause it even if the gains were set properly.

the loudness function on head units are worthless.

If you want more highs than use the eq on the deck

Which model Planet speakers do you have? They come with a 3 year warranty which includes blown speakers (at least at my shop). Go back to the shop you purchased them from and see if they are still covered. My suggestion is first do as dudehitt suggests and turn off the loud function and set the gains properly. Then if you are able, move the rear speaker up front and just run front speakers until you purchase your new truck.
