Picking Speakers
I’m looking to pick out a full set of speakers for my 2003 Honda Civic. I have been searching for a while and have an idea of what I want…I just need specifics.
Front Stage
I want to build a sealed fiberglass enclosure (most likely in the kick panel….I think making a fiberglass door panel would be a lot harder) for my front 6.5inch speakers. I plan on pairing them with a set of tweeters. Not sure if I’m going with a component set for up front or if I’ll get separate woofers and tweeters ran through a crossover.
Rear Fill
For rear fill I plan on getting two 6x9 inch 2-way speakers. I was thinking about putting in 8’s but I think the 6x9’s will be better as they can produce a broader frequency range. Also they are just going to be rear fill, not a major component for the overall sound quality that I’m looking for..
Amplifier
For the amp I planned on a 4 channel; somewhere in the 100watt per 4 ohm channel range. I was thinking 100 watts per channel because: 100watts split between each woofer and tweeter and at least a hundred per 6x9….and if I plan it right and run 2 ohm speakers in the back, that’s that much more power..
Subs
I already have a Hifonics Brutus Bxi 1206D amp (1200watts at 1ohm). So for the subs I definitely want 2x12” Dual 4’s at about 300-500watts rms which I plan on putting in two separate fiberglass enclosures. I had planned on getting 2 JL 12w3v2 but now I’m not as sure as I’m thinking there might be better subs for the same price or even cheaper.
Plan
I had planned for my system to work like this: Sub’s playing 20Hz-70Hz, 6x9’s playing 70Hz-15 kHz, woofers playing 60Hz-3 kHz, and tweeters playing 3 kHz-20 kHz. I planned on sending somewhere around 100watts to each 6x9 and then the other two channels being split by the woofers and tweeters.
Now how does all this sound? Still pretty unsure about a lot: do I buy components for the front or should I go with separate woofers and tweeters, should everything be ran through a separate crossover or some other device or will the amp be sufficient to filter the frequencies, will those power’s be sufficient for that type of setup. Also what brands or models to go with. Any questions, comments or suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.
