I'm not sure what to do.  I have an amp that puts out 400 watts @ 1 ohm.     I'm going to wire two 4 ohm  DVC subs that can handle 200 watts each in parallel so that they have a 1 ohm load.    My question is:  will the amp put 200 watts into each sub or will it put 400 watts into each sub.  I haven't found anyone that can answer this question.   Professional installers won't tell me because they want me to give them my money to do it.

thanks

adam

An amplifier produces whatever wattage it can and will divide it into the load connected to it.  If your amplifier produces 400 watts @ 1ohm, and you connect a total load of 1 ohm to it, then it will produce a max of 400 watts.  This power will be divided into whatever it is connected to.  If you are creating the 1ohm load using two equal impedance speakers, then the power will be divided by them (200 watts each.)  This is basic electricity, not something an installer should charge you for.
