slot ported box volume

Going to make my first attempt at a ported sub box with a slot port. Have used the calculators and such but was wondering how the math works. My sub is rated closer to 1.0 cu ft air space for a single 10" ported box. Obvisously you subtract the material from air space, but do you also subtract the port as air space? My port will be 2" wide by 44" long. So is it the air space that surrounds the sub that is critical or is just box volume minus port material for total volume of the enclosure? I read up a lot but its hard to do the math of a pre-built box. thanks for the help...

Yes, you subtract volume consumed by the port, as well as that occupied by your speaker and any bracing.  The net volume is what's left..Support the12volt.com

One more question, well two actually. For a single 10, is 1/2" mdf okay for the port and have the walls 3/4". Also, when it is recommended to round the corners to avoid port noise, do you just take a dremel and round off all the interior edges and outlet of the port?

If you have a router or the router attachment for the dremel, you can round them off using that. I wouldnt be able to tell you if its recommended or not though.
