I did a small basic install in a 98 wrangler today.I installed a Sony XR-C7200 HU,CDX-715 changer, and a EL series Bazooka 8".They were all used and in working condition when removed from the other veicle.
When you turn the HU on or off the bazooka and front speakers are popping. When you turn the volume all the way off the speakers again pop. When you change the station they pop.If I change over to the changer there is no popping at all while forwarding tracks or lowering the volume.
It seems like the deck is sending a spike of power to the front speakers and to the sub.
BTW I used Monster RCAs for the bazooka and a harness kit for the HU.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jay

The HU is grounded to the factory wire which is bolted to the dash frame. Its a solid ground ....this is the weirdest thing I have seen.Im thinking its the HU itself but im not sure.

find a new location to ground it back behind the dash. Sand down the area till all you have is clean bare metal and re mount it. But it definatly sounds like a bad ground.

One more thing disconnect the antenna from the head unit and see if it still pops.
