i have installed radio's in a couple of honda's before, and have not had a problem.

my question is :

does any one know if the plastic around the radio comes out, or if there is a tool to get the aftermarket sony radio out?

there are no apparent screws to get the plastic out.

thanks.

Sony radios have two different ways of coming out, depending on how old it is:
-If it's newer (about 4 years or newer), remove the faceplate, and you'll see a shiny silver thing off to each side. Snap the trim ring off, and then use a tool to move the silver pieces, allowing the radio to slide out.
-If it's older, there will be two slots behind the faceplate, near the top, each about 1/4" wide. Inert two flat pieces of metal to release the clips.
If you need to take the dash apart instead, it requires a few steps, but it's not hard:
1. Remove four (or six?) screws from the sides of the center console...slide the seats back and forth to make access easier.
2. Inside the center console storage bin, snap out the "floor" of the bin. Remove two screws under there.
3. Raise the parking brake, move the car into low gear, and grab the entire console and slide it a couple of inches toward the rear of the car.
4. After you've moved the console back, it'll reveal two screws holding the black plastic piece of the dash...remove these. After that, if I remember correctly, the piece around the radio will come right out.

Hey dude. I just took my gf's out yesterday.  I guess you've probably already got it out, or.. Done something, but the way you have to do it.. I guess if it's an LX, or.. whatever.. Just stick a screwdriver in the top, and pry it out of the clips it sticks in, then work your way down on both sides.  Take the ash tray out and there's a black screw under there that you need to take out.  Once you get it out, try to pull the console back, and when you do that you'll see 2 screws on the very back of that plastic piece.  They're screwed down under the middle console.  Take those 2 screws out and it will come right out.  Make sure to pull straight up on it and it won't break.  For more room to work, just disconnect your cig. lighter and lay it over to the side.

Like I said, you've prolly already got it done, but that's how I did it.  Too bad it took about an hour longer to actually do it than it did to type this..

Hey dude, I just stuck a Sound Storm cd player in my gf's 97, and I had some questions about the dash.  After you stuck your headunit in, did you buy a trim kit with that little plastic box thing? Or can you use the stock one?  If you bought an aftermarket, where did you get it?

Thanks

i didn't need a kit, the radio was a direct fit, and the trim piece came with the radio itself.
