new remote problem

i bought a brand new hu and it came with a remote and battery, seeing as its brand new i felt there would be no problem with the remote working, but it just wont work, could the battery be dead for no reason?...

Do you have a volt meter to check the battery to see if it is dead?  Point the remote into a digital camera or a cell phone camera.  Press a button and if it is working you will be able to see the Infra Red LED flashing.

i did the camera thing on a digital camera, and no beam, could it be a faulty remote?...
