aux input for older delco cd player

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I know how to add an auxiliary 3.5 input to older basic Delco cassette players and newer Delco Cassette and CD players but i want to know how it is done to an older Delco unit, the 3 piece with the separate amplifier unit. I know it can be done as I see them on ebay all the time but can't justify spending $100-300+ for one of them when I have a good Delco CD player from a 1995 Buick in my 1981 Chevy C10. I DO NOT want to use an FM modulator, nor do I want to play a silent CD just to plug in my ipod. There has to be a way to do this perhaps through the amplifier unit - I know which wires are the left and right channel on the CD player, but if I did this, I'd have to play a silent CD. You have to find the preamp input and interface to that. Or any suitable signal path between the heads and the amp etc. Good luck.

The only units I can help you with are the units with the Blaupunkt cassette mechanism.  The ones that the cassette inserts sideways.  On that unit, the cassette preamp is mounted to the cassette mechanism, the audio level between the deck and mainboard is ideal.  No capacitive coupling needed, just interrupt the 2 signal wires and infect IPod level audio. 

On your deck, the level coming from the mechanism is basically straight off of the head.  In the Microvolt range.  I am sure I could do it if I had your deck in front of me.  You will have to find  audio after it goes through the head amplifier.  If you want to buy a 13 dollar piece of equipment from RadioShack, I can probably help you find a suitable spot to make your connections.

Whilst thinking of how useful a BUMP can be, I also thought maybe you can tap into its connection to the separate amp. But that depends on the amp's input signal, and you miss out on using the volume, tone & balance controls of the cassette unit. FYI - I'm trying to convert Mum to converting cassettes to disc or flashkey so she doesn't wear out her cassettes in the extreme auto environment. It also means smaller and more available media and players, and portability.
