I have just bought a 1989 Nissan 240 SX that included a pioneer supertuner3 with CD changer. However, the display on the stereo does not display anything. It lights up and all the buttons work but nothing is shown. Can or should I just replace the faceplate? Thanks for any help.

Depends how old the head unit is.  What is the model number?  Usually it is shown on the front somewhere in small letters.  For pioneer they usually start with DEH or DEK

ahhh yea that's what I meant, KEH.replace faceplate? -- posted image.  I checked on the Pioneer Web site and they charge quite a bit ($68.63) for replacement face plates for that model, but it's still less than a new tape player (and MUCH less than what they charge for replacement face plates for more current models).  However, I think you'd be better off just getting a whole new unit for 30 bucks more.  Seeing as how you just purchased the vehicle you have no way of knowing how good of a condition the head unit is in, or how close to dying it may be.

i would just get a new unit and then you will not have to worry about something else going wrong with the head unit because it is older
